What is the Fibroblast Plasma Pen?

The Fibroblast Plasma Pen is a non-surgical and anti-aging procedure that helps tighten, lift, resurface, and regenerate the skin. This FDA-approved device produces tiny points of trauma to the treated area and triggers the skin’s natural healing process. This ultimately stimulates the production of new collagen and elastin which helps the skin tighten and regenerate. 

The Fibroblast Plasma Pen is an especially effective treatment for the face and neck area that are typically treated with dermal filler or plastic surgery. The Plasma Pen is different because of the accuracy it can achieve with the pinpoints. It can reach and treat hard-to-reach areas of sagging or wrinkled skin, such as the upper and lower eyelids, that were previously unable to be treated through non-surgical methods.

How does the Fibroblast Plasma Pen work?

The Fibroblast Plasma Pen is very effective and unique compared to other treatments because it works on both the surface and deeper layers of skin.

The Plasma Pen device is designed to deliver molecular nitrogen to the skin’s surface. The effectiveness of the plasma pen comes from being able to produce the controlled pinpointed micro-traumas. When the tiny traumas are introduced to the skin, it heats the deep dermis tissue which stimulates the fibroblasts to produce new collagen and regenerate the treated skin.

As these micro-traumas heal, new support and elasticity is generated as skin fibers contract, shorten, and tighten to eliminate those wrinkles. All of the new collagen firms, smooths, and plumps the area of treated skin, and as new collagen continues to be produced, your results will improve over time.

What can I expect during the consultation and treatment process?

We take a personalized and consultative approach with our client’s skin– during the initial consultation, our team will learn about your skin concerns, goals, and patient history to ensure the most effective treatment is recommended in your treatment plan. 

One of the advantages of treatment with the Fibroblast Plasma Pen is that you can usually see a lot of improvement in just one treatment session. But depending on the extent of skin damage and where the treatment area is, we may recommend additional treatments to ensure you achieve optimal results. 

The treated area will be numbed before the procedure starts to ensure as much comfort as possible. Everyone has a different level of pain tolerance, but most report only a mild-to- moderate discomfort. Some areas will be more sensitive than others– especially areas that have less fatty tissue under the skin.

If there’s a desired level of improvement you are looking for, a few treatment sessions may be recommended and performed in 2-3 month intervals. 

What can I expect with downtime and results?

There aren’t many restrictions necessarily post-treatment, but the signs of treatment will be visible for around 7-10 days. The tiny points of trauma made will cause redness, swelling, and scabbing in certain areas. Swelling usually dissipates within three days and scabs will fall off within a week. Your provider will make recommendations on what needs to be done at home.

We do recommend the following while healing from this treatment to ensure the best results:

• Limiting or eliminating alcohol consumption
• No smoking 
• Refraining from picking and scratching the treatment site
• Continuing to follow the after-care instructions our team sends home with you

In total, the healing process normally takes around 7-10 days before you will start to see tighter skin and a more even complexion.  Most patients achieve full results about 3 weeks after the first treatment and progressively see improvement as the skin continues to regenerate and heal. 

Because of the continued production of collagen, you may continue to see improvements for around 3 months after. Results can last for up to three years after treatment. Though this treatment is very effective, you will continue to naturally age as time goes on. Additional treatment in the future will be on an as-needed basis as signs of aging reappear.
