What makes Venus Viva different from other skin resurfacing treatments?

Venus Viva is known in the industry as the new gold standard medical aesthetic experience. Skin resurfacing procedures used to involve a lot of pain and downtime and had the potential to disrupt a patient’s life for a few weeks at a time. The new and effective Venus Viva can deliver the same impactful results, but with significantly less pain and downtime. 

Many lasers traditionally used for skin resurfacing only worked for lighter complexions. But the Venus Viva treatments have a specialized technology that allows all skin tones and skin types to be safely and effectively treated.

The Venus Viva treatment stimulates the fibroblasts in the skin to produce new collagen while at the same time tightening the existing collagen fibers. Tightening these existing fibers improves texture, skin laxity, fine lines, and wrinkles. The results are all over skin rejuvenation from the inside out. 

Who could benefit from the Venus Viva skin resurfacing treatments?

This treatment was specifically developed to address a wide variety of skin concerns. Venus Viva dramatically improves the texture, tone, and overall quality of your skin. It’s quick, non-invasive, and a relatively comfortable procedure to experience compared to traditional laser resurfacing treatments.

The skin concerns that Venus Viva can dramatically improve are:

• Fine lines and wrinkles

• The appearance of both acne scars and surgical scars
• Any pigment irregularities such as sun damage, brown spots, or uneven tone
• Appearance of stretch marks
• Loose or lax skin that could benefit from tightening and lifting

This treatment can smooth out rough texture and acne scarring, for example, while at the same time improving and balancing out any discoloration you’re experiencing as well.

How does Venus Viva skin resurfacing treatments work?

This new FDA-cleared procedure uses specialized technology that is able to deliver impressive efficacy through the combination of NanoFractional Radio Frequency™ (RF) and one-of-a-kind SmartScan™ technology. 

The SmartScan hand piece sends multiple fractional RF currents into the skin using patented scanner technology. This specialized scanner allows for the delivery of energy to be safer and more controlled– so you are able to target one area of skin without affecting any surrounding skin tissue.

The NanoFractional RF pulses generate heat in the dermis and cause tiny micro-dermal wounds on the skin’s surface. This triggers the body’s own natural healing response and production of new collagen. The entire process allows for visible signs of skin damage to repair.

Because the wounds are so small, the treatment is much more comfortable than any traditional CO2 laser skin resurfacing procedures and requires no extended downtime. It is also a highly customizable treatment in that the energy settings are determined by the personalized treatment plan your provider creates during your consultation. The settings will directly align with your specific concerns and goals.

What is the consultation and treatment process like?

The Venus Viva treatment is safe and effective for all skin types and ethnicities and both men and women of all ages. As with any skin treatment though, we recommend first having an initial consultation to assess your skin concerns, patient history, and goals. A personalized treatment plan will be created based on your unique concerns which includes planning what customized settings to use during your Venus Viva treatment.

There are certain areas that should be discussed and avoided during your consultation. Venus Viva should not be used on any hair-bearing areas such as the eyebrows. It also shouldn’t be used on any area that has received permanent makeup or tattoo ink.

You can expect the following during your treatment appointment:

• A topical anesthetic cream will be applied 30 minutes before the treatment starts to ensure comfort
• Once the numbing has taken full effect, your provider will use the handheld Venus Viva pulsed applicator on the treatment areas
• The provider will continue to pass the applicator across the treatment areas in smooth and consistent movements for around half an hour

Depending on your unique skin concerns, we may recommend multiple treatment sessions for you to be able to achieve optimal results. If maximum correction is desired, we would typically recommend three treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart. Options will be discussed in detail during your consultation and treatment sessions. 

What is recovery and results like?

Immediately after the treatment, the skin will be red and warm. This should resolve in a few hours, but some patients do experience a mild sunburn sensation for up to 36 hours after treatment. Most are able to return to regular daily activities the morning after the treatment.

Our team will provide full aftercare instructions for you to take home with you. Some of these suggestions will include:

• Not applying any treatments or skincare for the first 12-24 hours after the procedure
• Avoid any sun exposure for a few days following your treatment
• Using broad spectrum sun protection with at least SPF 30 daily during and after treatments

After your final treatment appointment, your results will continue to improve over time. The aging process will continue though, so a touch-up session may be needed every 6 months depending on how your skin responds.
